This Week and Next

-->
Activities for this week and next are listed below.  We will continue FAIR testing through October 2nd.  On Wednesday, September 26th we will have officials from the Voters Registration Office in the Cafeteria to help students, who are 18, register to vote.  Please encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity.  Additionally, please know that FCAT Retakes will be the week of October 9th.  These are critical exams for our 11th and 12th graders.  Math will be on October 8th, followed by Reading.  Mrs. Waide will be sending out more information in the upcoming week.

This week on the news show we will have a special video presented on Bullying Awareness and how to deal with these situations.  We have added four anonymous reporting boxes throughout campus to ensure there is a way to report situations anonymously by students.   Parents may report issues directly to school officials or complete the form available online and email the concern.  Additionally, any situation may be report anonymously to 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).  Anclote High School has zero tolerance for Bullying or Harassment.

Supplemental Educational Services Program

We have over 700 students eligible for FREE after school tutoring through the Supplemental Educational Services Program.  If your child scored a 1 or 2 on their FCAT Reading or Math, they are eligible to receive FREE tutoring from an outside Provider at school, at the library, or in your home.  This is an opportunity that is being offered for the first time at the high school level.  Please help us help your student, by securing, completing, and returning the white packet given to your son or daughter during their first period class. If they are unable to locate the white packet, please stop by or have your student stop by Student Services for a replacement packet.  If you are not sure if your son or daughter is eligible for the FREE tutoring, please contact Mrs. Douglas at (727) 246-3139 or email her at adouglas@pasco.k12.fl.us.  Thank you for helping make your student’s education the best possible in Pasco County.

Adult Education Opportunities

Guidance counselors will be available during lunches in the cafeteria to assist students with Adult Education sign up.  Students must have a parent signature on the required form.  Any student behind in credits should sign up to meet graduation requirements.  Anclote will be offering math and social studies courses on campus.  Adult education classes are Monday and Wednesday from 2 pm to 4 pm.  Classes begin on September 10th and end December 19th.

Resources for Parents

Getting a student through high school can be tough. There are plenty of obstacles that can get in the way. If you need help guiding your student through high school and into the working world, there are a variety of books, brochures and DVDs available at Anclote High School that can help.

We have material to help your students get good grades, plan for a career, choose a college, and find money to pay for school. We also have a variety of parenting skills books and DVDS that you can check out.

To access this info, simply come to Student Services and let the staff know what you need. Most of the material is available the Career Resource Center (CRC). You can ask for Mr. Anderson, AHS's Career Specialist, or Ms. Daniels, AHS's social worker. Both will gladly provide you with the help and guidance you need.

Congratulations to our first scholarship recipient - Bernadette Powers!

Anclote High School has its first scholarship winner of the new year! We've received notification that senior Bernadette "Bernie" Powers has received a $3,250 scholarship from Sage Scholars Tuition Rewards. We applaud her for her hard work and achievement, and hope that hers is the first of many scholarship awards for Anclote this year! If YOU are looking for your share of the scholarship pie, go to Mr. Anderson's College and Career Blog and look under "Scholarships" for your chance to win money for school.
