FAFSA Application Assistance - Wed. Feb. 27, 5:30-7PM

Thanks to all who attended our first FAFSA Overview session this past Wednesday! We had a good crowd, and from the feedback it seems that the program was well-received. I just wanted to remind you all that if you have a student who will be attending - or even MIGHT be attending - any kind of schooling after graduation, you MUST complete the FAFSA as soon as possible, preferably before March 1. Also, any student hoping to get Bright Futures MUST apply for FAFSA. To that end, we will be having our second FAFSA event next Wednesday, Feb. 27 in our Media Center from 5:30PM to 7PM. Parents and students will have personalized assistance completing the FAFSA online! Rasmussen College's financial aid staff will be back on site to help you all out. If you want to get a head start, go to fafsa.ed.gov and apply for your PIN TODAY! You should be ready to go and sign off on everything come Wednesday.

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Dual Enrollment Information - Testing & Registration

Dual enrollment is designed for academically talented students who want to accelerate their college careers.  Dual enrollment students receive both high school and college credit upon successful completion of a dual enrollment course. Ninth and tenth grade students may only take courses offered at the high school campus.  Next year, we plan to offer the following courses:  English Composition I & II, World Literature I & II, Intro to Psychology, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, & Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry.

Students must:
  • Have a cumulative unweighted 3.00 GPA for academic courses;
  • Be recommended by a high school counselor;
  • Have qualifying PERT, ACT, or SAT scores;
  • Enroll in approved dual enrollment courses (no PHCC college prep (remedial), physical education or applied music courses), and;
  • Complete and submit all necessary paperwork prior to end of school year (June 4th).

Pasco-Hernando Community College (PHCC) will be on our campus on Tuesday, March 5 to administer the PERT to 9th & 10th grade students who are interested in taking DE classes next year and meet the GPA requirement. Paperwork must be completed by Wednesday, February 27 to take advantage of this opportunity. Juniors will be PERT tested by AHS staff during the week of March 4th. Students will have to go to PHCC to test or take the ACT or SAT to meet the test requirement if they miss this testing window.

Please contact Mrs. Evangelista, School Counselor, at (727) 246-3076 if you are interested in this program.  Students can pick up necessary paperwork from her in her office, room 3-126.

For more detailed information about this program, including test scores needed, please visit http://phcc.edu/explore-programs/dual-enrollment.

Important Concordance Score Information

If a student has not passed the 10th grade FCAT, they may satisfy this requirement with a concordance score on the ACT or SAT.    The Department of Education, after conducting a thorough concordance study, has established concordant scores for the Grade 10 FCAT 2.0 Reading passing scale score of 245.  This new scoring information specifically applies to 11th grade students.
